Join
The Cal Poly Symphony
is a great place to make music, keep your artistic side alive, and meet
other cool people. Membership is open to all qualified Cal Poly students
by audition. It is best to audition at the beginning of the year. If,
however, you are unable to do so, please contact the conductor
to arrange an audition to join in Winter or Spring quarter.
How
do I audition?

H. P. Davidson Music Building during the Week

Sign up for a time
(10 minutes), as early in the week as you can, and bring the following:
- A prepared piece
(or pieces) of your choice. Choose music that shows you at your best,
not necessarily the most difficult piece you know. You should choose
a short section that is fast/technical, and a short section that is
slow/lyrical, to give the conductor an idea of your playing.
- A filled-out information
form - available next to the sign-up sheets, and also as a PDF here.
This helps the conductor get to know about your experience, any repertoire
you would love to play, etc.
For
a head start:
Streamed
audio of our current repertoire can always be found in the Music Department's
class materials,
on the web. Click on the link, then choose "Symphony" (near
the bottom of the list). Then click on the track you would like to hear.
The audio plays using a Quicktime plugin. If it does not work the first
time, go back one page and try again.
