About

The Cal Poly Symphony is a select ensemble comprised of students pursuing a variety of majors on campus. It performs works by composers from the Baroque through Contemporary periods, with an emphasis on exemplary repertoire for full orchestra (see repertoire). The orchestra performs at least one major concert on campus at the end of each quarter, and tours annually.

Admission is by audition, with an informal interview at the beginning of the year. Mid-year auditions are also possible, depending on available space in the ensemble (see join).

The orchestra offers scholarships for private lessons to non-music majors who are serious and wish to continue their studies. Our teachers are nationally accomplished performers and educators, and are committed to helping students master both solo and ensemble music.

Rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:40 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in room 216 of the H. P. Davidson Music Center, building 45. For specific rehearsal schedules, please see schedule.
