Winter Concert 2007

The Cal Poly Symphony will celebrate the talent of student soloists at its Winter Concert on Sunday, March 11. The "Student Soloist Showcase," featuring performances by winners of the Music Department's Solo Competition, will be at 3 p.m. in Harman Hall in the Performing Arts Center's Christopher Cohan Center.

Conducted by music faculty member David Arrivée, the program will begin with Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture and progress to music from the movies Vertigo and E.T.

Alex Kato-Willis will perform the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in c minor, and Ryan Putt will play the first movement of Gordon Jacob's Trombone Concerto.

Student vocalists will sing arias from a wide range of works for the stage. They include Ramón Andrés singing “Vainement ma bien aimée” from Edouard Lalo’s Roi d'Ys (King of Y's), Sophia Newton performing "If some day there chanced to be" from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore, and Corrie Stallings singing "Bill” from Jerome Kern's musical, Showboat.

Tickets for the concert are $10 to $12 for the public, $8 to $10 for seniors and $6 for students. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787).

Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket office will receive a 10 percent discount; a 15 percent discount is given to those who buy tickets to five or more events.
